Why China is a Poor Country?

Several years ago, China has defeated Japan and became the second economic power globally. Certainly, this is only in the sense of GDP, an universally acknowledged economic indicator of a country's produced value of a year . Some westerners still think, however, that China has not yet become a rich country; though on the whole it has made great progress in the past decades.

Why did they say so? And is that a fact?

As the foregoing stated, China truly helped many out of poverty since Mr. Deng's "Reform and Opening-up" in the late 1980s. Its economy has grown faster than any large economic entities in human history. This has made a group of Chinese take the lead in becoming extremely rich. Specifically, those folks who earn 23% fortunes only hold  5% of the total nation's population. With astonishing purchase capabilities, they can throw a great deal of money to get any luxuries as they like. Even so ,China hasn't become a paradise for them. According to a study abroad, a high percentage of those wealthy Chinese are considering moving abroad in a not very long future.

It's justified to think that society will be not safe enough if its gap between the rich and the poor widens. This also might be the reason for those choosing a new hometown abroad. In fact, the majority of Chinese are still poor, though their lives have improved greatly in these decades. There still remains a lot of concerns about the state of their common life, such as unaffordable house price, children's increasing education expense, and so on, which means that they merely have get out of abject poverty, and not yet achieved a comfortable life just as the middle class do. In any country and any period, such wealth gap will threaten the system security of society, while for those who desire to get rid of such uncertainty via immigration, they might feel disappointed since no country can avoid absolute inequality. In this sense, dangers do exist everywhere.

In addition, the Gini coefficient revealed by the official proved that the issue of China's inequality is becoming more sober beyond some rulers' estimation. And this figure, 0.474, has put this proud nation even behind South Africa, Brazil and Nigeria, the world's inequality's typical counties. By other analysts, it is likely to understate the magnitude of the issue by the single figure.
