Have you ever come across English words you truly didn't understand? Well, don't be surprised. There are actually quite a lot of unique words you may be unfamiliar with. 

你有遇到过怎么也理解不了的英语单词吗？嗯，不必惊讶。实际上有很多独特的单词你都可能不太熟悉。

To be fair, English does have a diverse vocabulary with a complicated history. English is a language with many words that originated from other cultures and languages.

老实说，英语的词汇确实很丰富，历史也很复杂。英语作为一门语言，其中有许多单词是从其它文化和语言中演变而来的。

Anyway, it is worth learning weird new words, to be familiar with if you ever came across it. Besides, it can be a fun and challenging way to learn new words.

总之，学些不同寻常的新单词还是有用的，碰见的时候好歹可以混个眼熟。哈哈～～ 此外，说不定这还是个学新单词好玩又有挑战性的新方法呢～～

1) Nincompoop (ˈnin-kəm-ˌpüp)

This is a word that not only sounds funny butlooks funny too. Try and say it. What’s even funnier is that nincompoop actually means a silly person and is occasionally used to refer to someone who is not very smart jokingly .

这个单词不仅发音很搞笑光看起来也很搞笑。试着读出来。更有趣的是，糊涂虫实际上是傻逼的意思🤣偶尔开玩笑地指某人不太聪明。

E.g. My company is just down the road to the left. I don’t understand how those nincompoops can't find it.

例：我的公司就在路的左边。我真不知道那些傻逼怎么就找不到。

2) Baloney  (bə-lō′nē)

Can you guess what this word means? And in case you are wondering. No, it doesn't have anything to do with balloons. Baloney actually means nonsense or rubbish. And it's often used in disagreement with someone.

你能猜到这个单词啥意思吗？以防你在想是不是…… 不是，这单词跟气球半毛钱关系都没有。胡扯实际上意思是胡说八道或瞎说的意思。经常用在与某人意见不合时。

E.g. What a load of baloney! I don't believe a word she said.

例：胡扯一通！她说的话我一个标点符号都不信。

3) Gibberish (jĭb′ər-ĭsh)

This is another word that refers to nonsense. It actually meant nonsense words or phrases that sound like English but make no sense. It's a very old word in use since the 16th century. It may have been borrowed from a spanish or swedish sounding word.

这是另一个指胡说八道的单词。它实际上是指那些听起来像英语实则毫无意义的胡说八道的单词或短语。它是个很古老的词，16世纪的时候就开始用啦。可能是从西班牙语或瑞典语发音中借鉴而来的。

4) Bamboozle (bam-ˈbü-zəl)

Incase you are trying to guess what this meant. No it has nothing to do with bamboos. Its a word first used 300 years ago and it meant to trick or confuse someone.

以防你在猜它是不是…… 不是，它跟竹子谁也不认识谁。这个词在300年前首次使用，它的意思是欺骗或迷惑某人。

E.g. I went to buy a T-shirt but ended up being bamboozled into buying a jacket.

例：我本来是想去买件T恤的，结果被糊弄地买了件外套。

5) Flabergast (flăb′ər-găst′)

If you are flabergasted. You have been overcome by surprise and bewilderment. While it is a very old word. Its a little unclear how old or the origins.

你要是惊呆啦，那么你就已经到了非常吃惊和困惑不已的地步了。它是一个很老的词。老到都不太清楚到底有多老，起源也不明。

E.g. He was flabergasted when he found out how much it cost.

例：当他发现（一个口罩）那么贵的时候，他惊呆了。

6) Zeal (ˈzēl)

This word may sound interesting. Well, words that begin with 'Z' tend to sound so. Zeal refers to  a strong interest or eagerness in pursuing something. This word is unique because it originates from Greek and Latin and was first used in the 14th century.

这个单词可能听着挺有趣的。好吧，一般”Z”开头的单词发音就这样。热情是指对追求某事物的强烈兴趣或渴望。这个单词的独特之处在于，它起源于希腊语和拉丁语并在14世纪首次使用。

E.g. Her zeal for buying works of art has made her famous. 

她疯狂买艺术品都买出名了。
