I always forget how vast the pacific Ocean is.

The coastline of LA is a snaking line of goldensand and endless water.

Miles of beach with merging identities-the hipster vibes of Venice Beach blurring into stylish Santa Monica and then beyond to the quieter, more rural Will Rogers State Beach.

I find myself at all three during my short trip to Los Angeles, and struggle to get my head around how a few miles of sand can have so many different personas, each one bringing its own brand of magic. Yet, when you get closer to the shore and away from the boardwalk. the sense of California is omnipresent- big skies, rolling waves and soft ochre sand. And the thing with Los Angeles is that a 10-minute drive can take you to another world. So, minutes after sloshing my feet in the sea, I find myself cruising past the colossal mansions of Bel Air to find my weekend rental. Maybe that's the wrong thing to call it , as the spectacular vacation home I discover courtesy of one fine-stay is beyond anything I could imagined.
