03: What means of transportation

I use many types of public transportation: buses, subways, and now shared bikes, a popular new form of public transportation in China.

I go to work by subway every day. It’s cheap and fast. I always try to avoid the rush hour so it’s less crowded and I can do some reading or watch videos quite comfortably.

The long walk from my company’s office to the nearest subway station used to be a bit of an inconvenience, but now with a shared bike, this final part of my commute has become much easier.

If I’m travelling within China, train is my first choice. China’s high-speed train system is really well developed. When travelling abroad, we all have to take long flights, which is something I definitely don’t relish.

I sometimes use my parents’ car but only during weekends and holidays. Traffic and parking are big problems in my city so it’s not always efficient or economical to use a private car.

    【短语集锦】

subway network 地铁路网 / bus route 公交线路

The subway network in my city is well-developed and there are plenty of bus routes too. Public transport can practically take you to every corner of the city.

rush hour 交通高峰期 / congestion, bumper to bumper traffic 交通拥堵 / overcrowded 过分拥挤 / personal space 个人空间(在公共场所人与人保持的适当距离)

Rush hour traffic is horrible in my city. There is congestion (bumper to bumper traffic) everywhere. It’s way more efficient to use public transport, but then you’ll be in overcrowded buses or carriages with no personal space at all!

fight delay 航班延误 / long queue 排长队 / immigration 入境检查处 / security checkpoint 安检口

Air travel is the quickest (and arguably safest) means of transportation. However, flight delays and the long queues at immigration and security checkpoints are always annoying.
