1. Experiment with punctuation

1）Increasing power to seperate
comma逗号, colon冒号, dash破折号, parentheses括号, semicolon分号, and period句号
2）Increasing formality

3）Use them to vary sentence structure

2. Semicolon

1）连接两个独立的子句
2）分句中有逗号时使用

3. Parenthesis

1）去除括号中内容时，不能改变句子主旨
2）括号允许读者略过括号中内容
3）括号中允许插入完整的一句话

4. Colon

1）colon come after an independent clause
2）Introduce a list, quote, explanation, conclusion, or amplification
3）The 'rules of threes' for lists and examples
4）足以说明问题，不足以压倒读者
5）分隔能力比分号差，比破折号正式

5. Dash

1）强调作用
2）插入突然的定义或描述
3）分隔能力比逗号更强，不像冒号那么正式，比括号轻松
4）只有当一个更常见的标点符号似乎不够时再用破折号
5）使用破折号时，动词可以离主语较远，因为读者可以直接在破折号后面找到动词
