Student academic achievement plays a critical role in their future academic and career development. Therefore, it is essential to identify factors that positively relate to student academic achievement. According to self-determination theory, autonomy is a basic human need that promotes autonomous motivation, thereby enhancing optimal learning functions. Parental autonomy support (PAS) is a social-contextual factor that satisfies one’s need for autonomy, involving parents encouraging their children to form opinions and make decisions actively and independently. Based on the theoretical foundation, I aimed to investigate the relationship between PAS and student academic achievement. Through reviewing relevant literature, including research studies and meta-analyses published in the United States from the 1980s to the 2010s, I have arrived at the main conclusion that PAS is positively related to student academic achievement. Furthermore, I propose future research directions on this topic.
(学生的学习成绩对他们未来的学业和职业发展起着至关重要的作用。因此,找出与学生的学习成绩正相关的因素非常重要。根据自我决定理论,自主是人类的基本需求之一——它能增强自主动机,从而实现学习功能最优化。父母自主支持是满足学生自主需求的一种社会环境因素,意为父母鼓励孩子积极、独立地形成观点和做出决定。基于这一理论基础,笔者旨在探究父母自主支持与学生学习成绩之间的关系。通过查阅相关文献,包括1980年代至2010年代在美国发表的研究和综述,笔者得出的主要结论是父母自主支持与学生学习成绩呈正相关。此外,笔者还就这一课题提出了未来的研究方向。)
