The chimney sweeper was written by an poet William Blake from England 200 years ago.This topic made two poems of Blake.At that time, lots of children was sold when they were little.Then, they need to did a hard,dangerous job—clear the chimney.
Think about it, you need to clear a place which was dark, high and full of suffocating soot.Maybe you’ll get burn by your owner.No one want to do this.So the children back then didn’t have chance to grow up because of disease(and psychological issues)which they get in the chimney.Blake shown his mercy in the poem.
This poem was full of beauty.It has rhyme at every end of the sentence.Also, I can feel that the rhythm of this poem is very suitable for “strong—weak”.It gave us sense of rhythm.
The “weep” in the word “sweep” was just like children’s crying voice.Blake thought children shouldn’t be this.So he believed that there was an angel (or god) who can rescue them out of the darkness and play.Even the temperature drop, kids were still happy.He think if everyone do their duty, kids wouldn’t be this.But the time passed, that environment was still.Blake was disappointed.In the end, he wrote another “the chimney sweeper” which only include criticism and complaints and no hope.
But I still believe those kids can be happy in the heaven.
