弄清 curb 和 kerb，提高听力辨识能力

就像发音一模一样的 chord 和 cord 一样，curb 和 kerb 虽然单词拼写差异较大，但是发音也是一模一样的。其实，弄清发音一样的单词，时间久了，听力辨识能力也就提高了。

一、curb

1、作动词，意为“控制，抑制，限定，约束（不好的事物）”，例如：

The government should act to curb tax evasion. 

政府应采取措施限制逃税现象。

We must curb our spending next month.

我们下个月必须控制开支。

The US will curb its influence over the next decade.

美国将在未来十年遏制其影响力。

2、作名词时不常用，意为“起控制(或限制)作用的事物”，后面常跟介词 on，例如：

You need to try to put a curb on your bad temper.

你需要设法控制你的坏脾气。

It will be a curb on spending.

这将限制消费。

二、kerb 作名词，意为“（由条石砌成的）路缘；道牙；马路牙子”，是个可数名词，例如：

Stewart stepped off the kerb.

斯图尔特走下马路牙子。

She tripped over the kerb.

她被路缘石绊倒了。

三、两者的区别

当两者意为“马路牙子”的时候，美式英语使用 curb，英式英语使用 kerb，也就是在美式英语中不存在 kerb.
