In 2007, Lin Qingxuan was honored as one of the ten outstanding writers in Taiwan. He was invited to speak at the Hebei Institute of finance.
当他走到讲台时，一个女孩在讲台下说林清玄长得很丑，个子很矮。
When he came to the podium, a girl under the podium said Lin Qingxuan was ugly and short.
林清玄开始坐在凳子上。
Lin Qingxuan began to sit on the stool.
他很快站起来，说桌子很高。
He quickly stood up and said the table was very high.
当他说完，所有的观众都很高兴，因为他幽默地说话。他接着对大家说，
When he finished, all the audience was very happy because he spoke humorously. And he went on to say to everyone.
他说他听到一个女孩说他又矮又丑，每个人都认为他会生气，但他说：
He said he heard a girl say he was short and ugly, everyone thought he would be angry, but he said:
如果一个男人在17岁开始写作，他写了40年的书，他就应该长这样子。
If a man begins to write at the age of 17, he has written for 40 years, and he should grow up like this.
说完，每个人都向他响起了热烈的掌声。
After that, everyone applauded loudly to him.
林清玄说，一个丑陋的人就应该要学会笑。上帝关上了门，上帝会为你打开另一扇窗户。因此，它会显示出相对的公平。
Lin Qingxuan said that an ugly person should learn to laugh. When God closes the door, God will open another window for you. Therefore, it will show a relative fairness.
如果我因为丑陋的外表，我去自杀，那么我早就死了1000次。
If I went to commit suicide because of my ugly appearance, I would have died 1000 times.
所以我没有机会站在这里为你们演讲，我也没有办法出版130多本书。
So I have no chance to stand here to speak for you, and I can not publish more than 130 books.
当他说完话后，所有人都热烈鼓掌。
When he finished his words, everyone applauded.
