One day, in a classmates reunion party, a girl cried suddenly, she said: I have been 24 years old, why is there no boy to chase me, ask me to be his girlfriend? I have good appearance as well as good character.”

At that moment, everyone kept silent and didn’t give feedback to the girl, after a while, one idiot said: Because you don't know yourself thoroughly.

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.  Knowing yourself was the motto in ancient Greek, and Mr Socrates, a famous thinker, also used it as his motto.

People tend to overestimate their appearance, ability, and connections.

For example, at least, eighty percent of women thought their appearance is above social average level ,it is logically unreasonable, because if eighty percent is above the average level, how does the average level come from?

Such as the famous Chenggang Rui,he often said "My good friends, the former President of United State,Bill Clinton, and my another good friend, the god of the stock ,Mr Buffett, and some other big wigs ", but when in his victim, those his famous good friends didn't give a hand,he eventually knew that his connections were far from his imagination.

We all know that Einstein was a great scientist, but you may don’t know that he had been very naughty until the age of 16, one morning, Einstein’s father let his son stop going to fish and told him a story, which changed Einstein a lot. His father said: Yesterday, uncle Jack and I went to clean the chimney, we only climb the steel ladder in the chimney, uncle Jack went in front of me. We were holding the handrail, climbed up the chimney and clean it, then went down. Later, we found a strange thing: uncle Jack's back and face were black with ash, while my body was very clean, attached with nothing, even a little ash. Einstein's father continued to say with a smile: I saw your uncle Jack, I thought I must be the same dirty as him, liking a clown, so I went to a stream nearby to wash my face. Do you know how about your uncle Jack? He saw me very clean,he thought that he must be the same clean as me. So he only washed his hands quickly, then went shopping in streets. As a result, when people saw him, they laughed at your uncle Jack, and thought this man might be mad.

Einstein listened to his father, and couldn't help laughing with that story, after the laughter, Einstein’s father said to his son solemnly :in fact, anyone can’t be your mirror, except yourself .As the saying goes, taking other people as your mirror, the idiot might put himself as a genius.

The story above teaches us a lesson that knowing others is easier than knowing yourself.

We have the same chinese proverb that to know yourself is true progress, which has the same meaning as knowing yourself. So, to know yourself, to be wiser!
