    I don’t agree

Jane Nelsen, Nadine Gaudin CPDLT, Solenne Roland-Riché CPDT

Objective:  Understand that it is not about who is right and wrong; it is about learning together.

Comment: Two realities can be opposed. Remember to think that the participant can believe something and you can believe something else and none of you lose any value or dignity.

    Instructions:

    1. Make one line of 8 people who will be the facilitators. Have one volunteer be the participant who disagrees.

    2. Role play No. 1: The participant stands in front of the whole line and says in an aggressive way:” I don’t agree” to all of them. Ask all what they are thinking, feeling, and deciding as they hear the resistance.

    3. Role play No. 2: Each person in the line reads an A statement to a participant who says, “I don’t agree,” in an aggressive way. Ask all what they are thinking, feeling, and deciding as they hear the resistance.

    4. Role play No. 3: This time the facilitator will reply with one of the B statements to the participant saying “I don’t agree”. Ask all what they are thinking, feeling, and deciding when they hear the “learning together” statements. Ask them what this tool (learning together) will develop in the list of skills or challenges.

    5. Ask what was the difference between being in opposition as an “or” and working and learning together as an “and”. You can point out if the participants haven’t: vertical/horizontal, expert/facilitator, binary/complexity…

    6. Ask them what they have learnt from this activity.

    Statements A

You should understand that research says that.

When you do that, it works better.

    Maybe you will understand later.

    You might not be ready.

Making face of disapproval. Sight and roll eyes.

No, but I think that you are wrong.

    You should know better.

    Oh please!

    Statements B

    Smile and saying “ok”

We don’t have to agree; it is what makes life interesting.

We don’t have to think the same way.

We don’t have the same idea and it doesn’t make yours or mine a bad one.

Now it gets interesting! We have different opinions.

Please tell me more; I’m not sure I understand where we disagree.

Thanks for showing us that reality is not so simple.

I haven’t thought about it enough, give me some time.

    Jane Nelsen,Nadine Gaudin CPDLT,Solenne Roland-RichéCPDT

    声明A.
