According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary, positivity is "the quality or state of being positive." That being said, I think positivity is an ability, a skill. In other words, being positive is a skill that can be acquired, improved, and strengthened.
Why bother creating a new meaning for positivity? There are two reasons. For one thing, the synonym for positivity is optimism, which is the belief that everything will turn out for the better, as well as hope and confidence in the future or the successful outcome of something. What a beautiful attitude! Who would not want to feel that way? For another, a positive attitude is a very important but difficult skill. It must be intentionally learned, repeatedly practised, and maintained forever.
Instead of following logical reasoning, people instinctively follow their hearts. Heart feelings are fickle and unreliable. If we followed only our hearts, we would surely end up in negativity and pessimism, because life is basically tough, resources are limited, and competition is fierce; moreover, diseases, conflicts and wars are inevitable; eventually, we all have to face death. However, science and logical thinking can save us from being tormented by volatile hearts. In fact, science and technology have transformed the world into a much better place than ever before, where people live longer, fast changes are taking place every day, and we enjoy far more conveniences than previous generations.
Science and technology are so important, but they are motivated not by the heart, but by the mind and rationality. Good scientists must be highly logical people whorely on their intellect and a positive attitude, otherwise, they will not last long in the boring and challenging process of scientific discovery.
Once the reasons for positivity are clarified, it is also clear how to be positive.First, live beyond our heart feelings, i.e. emotions. Remain rational andlogical and do not let emotions enslave you. Second, constantly change for thebetter, which means being physically and mentally healthy, financiallyprosperous, and having harmonious interpersonal relationships. These are thebases for staying positive. Finally, treat those around you with kindness andempower others whenever possible. By creating positive energy for others, weourselves will be positively influenced and richly rewarded. By all means, be acreator of positivity!
It can take a lifetime to practise and improve the ability to be positive, but itis worth doing. Life is short. Everyone deserves a good one, don't they?
