Less company companions to define;

Too‘ quainted as acquaintances to deem;

Had I more dare, through poems I wouldn’t whine,

the only place where I of love dare dream.

Were I one compass’ foot, revolved around

the other, where our jointed hinge would be?

Should we t’ form unison, our blood compound,

why can’t I find love’s mingling bed, the flea?

Though not so much we share on this lone earth,

of th’inf’nite space we are the king and queen.

In heaven’s vault we shared I see no dearth:

a sun, a moon, and myriads glistening sheen.

When neb’lous thieves did loot nocturnal sky,

I gaze upon my empty chest and sigh.
