今天要来说一家悲催的公司：
1993年，美国加州辛克利（Hinkley）镇居民将太平洋电力瓦斯公司(PG&E)告上法院。最终PG&E以赔偿3.3亿美元和解，是美国污染致癌单一赔偿案的最高数额赔偿。在加州政府监管下，小镇的污染清理与修复工作延续至今。这一故事被改编成电影《永不妥协》。六价铬是一种很容易被人体吸收的有毒物质，可能造成遗传性基因缺陷，也可能致癌，对环境有持久的危险性。而这些注有六价铬的水被(PG&E)直接存储于池塘中，严重污染了地下水。镇上的居民也因此各种疾病缠身（后来也有证据说这些病可能和六价铬并没有直接的关系，不过该赔的已经赔了）。
而且去年11月，一场山火（wild fire）肆掠美国加利福尼亚。大火持续18天，绵延620平方公里，最终造成了85人死亡,千人受伤，超过1.8万栋建筑物被吞噬，一座名叫“天堂”（paradise）的小镇被烧成焦土。太平洋煤气电力(简称PG&E)的输变电线路被坐实就是火灾的原因。PG&E将面临150亿美元(约合人民币1029亿元)的赔偿，这远远超过公司目前的资产规模，甚至比公司的市值还高。加上2017年公司引发的火灾，PG&E目前面临的赔偿总额估计已达到了300亿美元。今年年初这家公司申请破产保护（file for bankruptcy）。（就怕将来说这些火和这家公司其实没有关系。）
