A Tartar Pipe (Selected Verse)
Li Qi
The pipe is made of bamboo cut from southern mountains,
A Tartar from the northwest plays it low and high.
Those homesick travelers would shed tears like fountains;
The neighbors hearing it would utter sigh on sigh.
The wind whistles through mulberries and cypress old,
And dreary yellow clouds darken the bright sunny land.
When candles brighten the hall on New Year's Eve cold,
Why not enjoy the music with wine cup in hand?
