Love Poem

Specially written for Valentine’s Day by Sophie Meng

Oh dear, it’s the 14th of February!
Official Valentine’s day.
We had to think of a gift,
So you would not have a rift.
(Plus you wouldn’t ever want it that way.)

We put our heads together and thought,
About different stuff, then we sought.
What kind of present,
Both sweet and pleasant,
That definitely wouldn’t have been bought.

But Dad went and got some red flowers,
And I sat and sat here for hours,
Until “Aha!” said I, “What could be better,
Than a beautiful handwritten letter?”
We cheered at the plan that was ours.

So I wrote it and turned it in,
To mum, who was cleaning the bin.
And she said, “Oh, forever,
We shall cherish together.
This poem without a sin.”
