结构分析：agile = ag （动作）+ ile （形容词后缀）→动作敏捷的→机敏的、活泼的
词源解释：ag ←拉丁语 agere （做、动作）
词根：ag/act/ig
来源于拉丁动词 agere 的词干部分
意为 to drive, to do
act 是个英语核心单词，其实它的前身 act 是 ag 的同源异形词根，来自 agere 的动名词形式 actum 的词干部分，基本含义也是 to do 或 to drive。
当 ag 之前为元音时，ag中的"a"脱落变成"g"。这几个词根用做to drive 之意时，其同义词根有来自拉丁语的 flig, pel/puls(peal)。
此外，来自拉丁语的词根dict/duc(du), men(mean)及来自希腊语的 agog, 意为to lead,含义相似。
