@森林的后裔 解释得非常好。我只给@娇娇 略补充一下,“思想是记忆的延续” ,思想的原词是thought,意念、思维、思想,都是这个词。唐代《坛经》里有“……神秀思惟……卧轮有伎俩,能断百思想……”这里的“百思想”其实就是杂念,但在当代汉语语境里,“思想”往往与主义、学说……连在一起,但克的本意实际主要还是人的日常意念与思维,这一点需要留心。若是我来翻译,会非常慎重地使用“思想”一词,以免读者产生偏重,偏离克的本意。
人的思维范式,是过往的、未被领悟的、仍然纠结的经验沉淀而成,所以克称作“(心理)时间”,是心灵的束缚。思维、意念,就是人凭借自己的经验、记忆、心理时间,对当下的外境所做出的模式化、受拘束的反应,所以是“过去的延续”。

Although our attachment is in constant change, what have never changed is that we always use the attachment as our refuge, in other words, we can obtain some kinds of certainty, safety, gratification, satisfaction... from what we have been attaching to. Take a drinker for example, he may substitute beer for Maotai wine, but this is never the change of the attachment, because he continue to pursue intoxication as before and escape from something of which he is unaware sometimes.
Yes, it is only to an image that we attach actually, and the image is self-projected in our mind. So the attachment is only a self-cheating game.
It is very interesting that you used the word “dependence” in your last paragraph, and it seems that we always want to keep the pleasure and gratification in place but to dismiss the suffering which the attachment engenders. I am afraid we will never be free of an attachment until we go beyond such an duality deadlock and observe the attachment and everything subtle and secret underneath, such as our desire for safety, certainty, gratification; our desire of escaping from something, and our deepest fear in the pigeonholes of our subconsciousness......
