Two books at a time

I'd heard a “live" lecture on wechat group today. It's a lecture about reading given by a psychology major under graduate . I was impressed by his words and appreciated his sophisticated mindset. How could a young man born after 90's  have such an old soul!

Besides, he has a deep voice and a good looking profile photo. Some girls were asking if he has a girlfriend. Lol.....

For me, what's useful in the lecture is that the young man gave a really good advice on reading books. That is he reads two books at a time--one is a novel , the other is a non-fiction book. Why? Because he thinks this will be good for his mind. This kind of switch is like a button to turn on and off the highly-focusing work mode.

Reading non-fiction books is to acquire knowledge, to gain information, to learn something we don't know before. These require a lot of long-time concentration and brain energy. So we'd better read them right beside the desk, sit still, and focus on the pages.

On the other hand, reading fiction books is somehow just for pleasure or more presisely for killing time. So we don't have to spend a bunch of time to read them. We could just make full use of the time gap, such as daily commuting from home to office, or the hours on a plane or even the teeny tiny minutes before you meet someone.

This suggestion is new to me. Since I only read one single book at one time. I thought it would be too busy and confusing to read more than one book.

Well, maybe I was wrong. Maybe it's time to change now.
