The Gumbie cat

On a night adorned with a full moon and tons of shinning stars, a group of catsgather together in an open area, listening attentively to a black-and-white-stripedcat telling the story of an old Gumbie cat named Jennyanydots. He’s quite immersedin his role to an extent that he stretches his arms and legs, leaps and swirls withbig movements. At his request, a black cat jumps onto a huge treasure box nearbyand slowly lifts it. What comes out is the Gumbie cat who is, in her clumsycoat with tiger stripes and leopard spots, still yawning, vindicating hisdescription of her laziness: “all day… she sits and sits and sits and sits.”

Yet,this is not the whole picture. Now three cute and stylish girl-cats sitting ona podium next to the vintage jewel box sings about the Gumbie cat’s caringpersonality and inspiring spirit. “When the day's hustle and bustle is done”, theGumbie cat starts to carry out her duties. She teaches the mice good manners, music,crocheting and tatting. In sync with the music, four rats with pointy mouthline up in front her and copy her actions of “crocheting” and “tatting”.

Then the trio of chorus girls dancing in jazz moves describes how Jennyanydots trains the cockroaches into “a troop of well disciplined helpful boy scouts” to “prevent them from idle and wanton destroyment”. While Jennyanydots shakes off her outer-coat, an army of cockroaches come to the stage and join her to perform the beetle’s tattoo. After tap dancing together for this “military drill” for a short time, all the cats, rats and cockroaches salute to her and express their appreciation “for she's a jolly good fellow”. The Gumbie cat standing in the center and surrounded by all the other animals, responds with “thank you my dears”.
