In a moonlit night, the cats are gathering at their venue which is a playground half-enclosed by some waste. A black-and-white male cat starts singing an adagio in a clear voice in the middle. It is about the gumbie cat, Jennyanydots, who wears a plump coat and is usually languorous in the day. Hearing this, other cats laugh up their sleeves. As his voice becomes rallentando, a chest opens and reveals the sleepy-eyed gumbie cat. Then three female cats sing in an allegro and dance, introducing her alter ego in the night. The gumbie cat is unsatisfied with the mice’s behaviour and teaches them music, crocheting and tatting. A group of little cats put on mouse masks, line up on the ground, and do as what she has instructed. With a transitional lively rhythm, the male cat reappears at the gumbie cat’s side and sings another adagio describing her daytime movements which mainly are “sits”. As soon as he finishes, the three female cats continue to sing and dance. This time, it is the story that the gumbie cat trains the cockroaches into a troop of well-disciplined helpful boy scouts. With the help of other cats, the gumbie cat gets rid of the plump coat and shows her gaily striped fur. A team of cockroaches go onstage and line up like troops. Together with the cats, they dance, waving their hands and bending forward. The gumbie cat leads the dance and thanks her friends and students. Then comes the end of this scene.
