2022年9月22日，读完The Wisdom of Ancient Rome, compiled by Benoit Desombres, ISBN 9780789202420。本书搜集了古罗马的名人名言，编者在前言中提到，古罗马人留下的文学遗产中，最重要的论述应该是关于人与自然的关系，本书中搜集的名人名言就体现了这一点。本书以一幅画（古罗马的壁画或者马赛克拼贴画）配一段文字的形式呈现，壁画古意盎然，我最喜欢的当属Primavera（注意，这不是波提切利的同名油画《春》，而是一幅壁画，参见书封下方图片），最喜欢的一段文字是摘自Seneca的Letters to Lucilius的一段：Many have gone through life merely accumulating the instruments of life. Consider individuals, survey men in general: there is none whose life does not look forward to the morrow. "What harm is there in this," you ask. Infinite harm, for such persons do not live, but are preparing to live. They postpone everything. （大意：许多人盼望着明天；他们并不是在生活，而是在准备生活。）
