1 - 阅读感悟
(1) The price for such freedom was the willingness to forsake fame and wealth, the ability to endure simple food, dress, and shelter, to travel a thousand miles on foot, and to sleep in the open if necessary.
Remarks：事难两全，自由听起来很美，但真正的自由，如句中所说，同时意味着放弃与承受。endure用得很好，endure指经受长期的艰难、困苦或折磨而不屈服，强调持久力和意志坚强（常用于否定句中）。相近的词有bear，endure相当于bear bravely，bear侧重强调某人的心理或身体承受能力，强调忍受者对痛苦、忧虑、烦恼以及责任的承受力。
(2) “Why, that's eady! Huichow is not in heaven, isit? If you go on walking,you are bound to reach it.”
Remarks：值得学习的态度！人们往往被心中想象的困难吓住，不敢跳出舒适圈。但也许现实中的困难并没有那么可怕，即使真的有那么可怕，只要Start to do it and keep on dong it, you are bound to reach it!
(3) He could not be a public servant, but he could still be a pubic-minded citizen.
Remarks：苏东坡精力种种磨难，终于从立志“效忠君主”到致力于“服务人民”。苏东坡虽被政治伤害多次，但他并不郁郁寡欢，抱怨社会，他对生活依旧热爱，对人民依旧关心，对各种利民工程依旧热心，可见其豁达！此外，本句写作上，林语堂依旧使出了惯用的选词前后对称的方法，从用词上反应出苏东坡前后的同与不同。
2 - Words & Expressions
(1) make (one's) peace with (someone or something)
原文：... for he had made peace with his destiny and now accpted it without a doubt. 文中表示“接受”的意思。
意思：To reconcile with or accept something that previously was a source of stress, conflict, etc 接受；(与…)言归于好，(与…)讲和；(敌对与争论的双方)和解。
(2)melt away
原文：...after the night cloud's have melted away.文中表示“渐渐散去”的意思。
① to disappear slowly 渐渐消失；渐渐散去，(人)悄悄离开;
【例句】As the police sirens were heard, the crowd started to melt away.
②If a strong feeling melts away, you feel it less strongly and it disappears:
【例句】Her anger melted away when she read the letter.
③become liquefied by heat； thaw 熔化，融化；
④dissolve into ecstasies 着迷；神魂颠倒
【例句】His story melted away my soul．他的故事使我着了迷。
(3)outgrow
原文：SuTungpo had outgrown his young ambition to make his "emperor the best"...文中表示“长大成熟而不再”。
①If a child outgrows a piece of clothing, they grow bigger, so that it no longer fits them. 长大而穿不下 (衣服)
【例句】She outgrew her clothes so rapidly that Patsy was always having to buy new ones.
