Today, China boasts impressive gains in the sector which is home to the world’s largest education system marked by high quality. In 2023, there were 498,300 schools at all levels, serving 291 million students pursuing degree education and supported by 18.92 million full-time teachers. Every year 11 million college graduates enter the workplace in service of socio-economic development. Across the country, the enrollment ratios for pre-school education and compulsory education are on par with the average levels in the world’s high-income countries; higher education is at a globally recognized level of popularization; and, the level of education modernization ranks in the upper-middle tier internationally.
