A huge explosion ripped through a restaurant in north-east China today, leaving one dead and 10 injured.

The restaurant, selling Korean barbecue, is located on one of the main avenues in Shenyang, the bustling capital of Liaoning Province, according to local reports.

An initial investigation shows the incident was caused by a gas cylinder which exploded inside the restaurant.

One resident of the building told BJNews that she felt her home shaking and thought it was an earthquake, before realising that the restaurant downstairs had exploded.

The authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion further.
