1/ 文章脉络梳理：首先文章回顾过去，中国原本也是皇权与教权相结合的统治模式，Party掌握政权后，将宗教视为阻碍进步的障碍，遂用马列毛替代；毛溘然长逝，共产主义思潮渐弱，道德沦丧缺乏信仰演变成一个社会问题。面对这一身份认同危机，领导人说“国无德不兴，人无德不立”，并且提出传统美德与共产主义相结合的解决方案。文章继而分析了国内现代宗教状况，国内各宗教都处在变化之中，儒道佛以及西方宗教都有信徒。文末提到Johnson 写了一本书，为一直重视中国政经发展忽视文化宗教变革的人们提供了一幅全景画卷。简而言之，作者认为各宗教信仰将共存。最后文章以一个成都布道者在家中布道的场景结束，描绘了未来的景象：传统宗教进化调整后适应现代社会的需求，各得其所。
2/ 难点攻克
第一，题目有深意 Pilgrims on the barren land，17世纪约翰班扬写过一本《天路历程》Pilgrim's Progress，the barren land 意指之我国宗教信仰现状。第二个就是群里讨论激烈的“the Middle Kindom has lost its middle”中原之国核心/灵魂缺失。我比较粗心，对这句overlook了。第三个点“a city upon a hill”山巅之城，这个点也是看了笃师的解析才注意到的。要提升文化敏感度了，看起来好像每个词都认识，但是不能望文生义。
3/关于宗教话题
宗教话题没有接触太多，文章初读好多地方一知半解。对于中国宗教状况的零星了解也是通过TE，还记得上次看到的是关于海南岛建南海观音像以及佛教商业化的报道。正是因为这样不识庐山真面目，所以要通过TE 增加对自己身处国度的了解。
