In adulthood, many child prodigies become experts in their fields and leaders in their organizations. Yet “only a fraction of gifted children eventually become revolutionary adult creators,” laments psychologist Ellen Winner. “Those who do must make a painful transition” from a child who “learns rapidly and effortlessly in an established domain” to an adult who “ultimately remakes a domain.”

1.fraction：少量，一点，a very small amount of something，固定用法为“a fraction of…”，值得注意的是，如果“a fraction of”后面跟了复数名词，谓语动词要用复数形式。

比如说：Only a fraction of cars in the UK use leaded petrol.

2.lament：抱怨，对某事表达不满，to express annoyance or disappointment about something you think is unsatisfactory or unfair.

例句：He lamented that people had expected too much of him too soon. 他抱怨大家一下子对他期望过高。

3.remake：重新制作，to build or make something again.这里表达“改写这个领域”用了这个词，有一种改头换面的感觉。

例句：She remade her wedding dress to fit her daughter. 她把自己的婚纱改了改给女儿穿。
