We had a nice breakfast at 9:00am August 29 .

We left Brighton marina to Presqu'ile Bay on Lake Ontario.

Murray Canal ahead

The Murray Canal is a canal in the municipalities of Quinte West and Brighton, Ontario, Canada, and runs from the western end of the Bay of Quinte to Presqu'ile Bay on Lake Ontario. It is approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) in length and has maximum depth of 9 feet (2.7 m). The canal shortens the trip for boats wishing to access Lake Ontario from the central and western Bay of Quinte by avoiding having to go around the whole of the isthmus of Prince Edward County.

The canal was proposed as early as 1796 and land was set aside by the government of upper Canada .

County Road 64 swing bridge.

The swing bridge was automatically opened when our boat slowly drew closer to the bridge .

.

First time I saw the swing bridge, I was very excited. I waved to the staff and said:"thank you."

When we passed the swing bridge, it closed automatically .

Second bridge is Ontario Highway 33 swing bridge

Bay of Quinte

There are many cottages around here .

Sometimes people embark across the lake in a flotilla of kayaks, canoes and a paddle boat .

August is a wonderful month at the cottage as four generations live as an extended family under one roof before we scatter once again to our individual lives.

It was a fine day and the sun was shining Maurice drove about 20km/h. He suddenly noticed that there was a problem with the gas gauge . it was propably running out of gas .

We were in a hurry to find a gas station. After a few minutes our boat ran out of gas.

I was very scared, because the wind was pushing our boat towards shore. I asked Maurice to get help with flares. Maurice said:" don't be scared! sweetheart !".

Maurice took the VHF Maritime Video speaker:"panpan panpan panpan This is happy fisherman on channel 16 , calling Prescott coast guard ". A coast guard answered : happy fisherman go to 24. Maurice changed channel 24 and told the coast guard: I am out of gas .because of faulty gas gauge . The coast guard asked: what is your location ? Are you in any immediate danger? How many people on your boat ? What size and color is your boat ?
After Maurice answered. The coast guard said :"hold on ."
A few minutes later the coast guard replied :"do you see a sailboat on your starboard side? It is on the way to help you ."

Every body attention, the upper left is regular radio , right is VFH radio.

They towed our boat with a rope to the gas station at 4:11pm.

We spent about $500 filling up the gas.

We offered them $100 for our thanks. They firmly refused to accept that they should help us .I was really touched .The quality of Canadians is really high .

At 7:15pm we arrived Kingston.

Kingston 's evening view was very lovely .

The restaurants don't close until 11:00pm.

We decided to stay at the hotel for a good rest .
