    assess

    • 评估人的能力、物的质量或属性

    Exams are not the only means of assessing a student's ability.
    The insurers will need to assess the flood damage.

    • 后面跟疑问从句:

    We are trying to assess how the system works.
    It's difficult to assess whether this is the new trend.

    • 后面跟'as + 形容词' 表达一种看法

    I'd assess your chance as low.

    • 后面跟'at $100' 表示估价

    They assessed the cost of flood damage at $10,000.

    appraise

    • 包含主观或情感的评价

    an appraising glance/look
    He coolly appraised the situation, deciding who would be most likely to succeed.

    • 正式的评价工作绩效

    Teachers are asked to appraise their own performance.
    Managers must appraise all staff.

    • 以专业的水准进行估价

    They appraised the painting at $20,000.

    evaluate

    • 经过思考后的判断。此时与appraise类似,但不像appraise包含有主观感情成分,它只是表达研究后给出判断,如果涉及到科研领域,应该用它而不是appraise

    We need to evaluate how well the system is working
    It's impossible to evaluate these results without knowing the research methods employed.
