Fellow Toastmasters and distinguished guess, today is the perfect time to talk about  kids. I always have doubt in raising my son. I agree with Din Can’s last speech, the best first-hand experience is from my own growth. When I look back, what impact me most from my mom are a few things.

In my childhood, when other kids went to kindergarten, I was kept at home to take care of my family’s grocery store. My initial function was sitting behind the counter to keep eye on goods. When someone came to buy, I alerted my parent who was doing other things in the kitchen at the back of the house. Gradually I learned how to sell based on the price and gave back exchange. Interestingly I surprised my villagers by the speed and accuracy of my oral calculation. It became a well-known thing and my villagers wanted to test me by giving a big money like 10RMB to buy a small thing. And I can always do it right. This is not like kids doing math on the workbook, it’s about real money.

I always think this benefits my future study on math, even on other science subject like physics and chemistry, but my parents didn’t do it on this purpose.

Time passed and my mom registered primary school for me and I missed kindergarten totally. Somehow I was one week late for my first school because my parents were busy in other things. In my first exam on pinyin I got 30 scores. I was sad when back home. My mom checked and told me:“ The teacher gave too low scores, I see you did right on the character but only wrong in the format.” My mom told me later, she went to the teacher’s office and suggest:“ The score was given too low which might frustrate the student. Could you change to60 and my daughter will study well in future.” Although the teacher didn’t accept my mom’s suggest, she was so brave. The key is she believes in me.

I grew up with my ordinary school life. My mom seldom bought me new clothes, she told me:” Your exam score is more important than your clothes.” I believe it. I focus on study and forget about my poor clothes. Even now this belief is still in me as I am lazy to do makeup or buy clothes. Because of this focus, my performance at school became better and better. For the first time in my whole primary school life, I achieved No. 1 in the final graduation exam. I remembered so clear, my Chinese was 93, a record high in my whole primary school performance. My math was 97, and could be 100 if I did well.

I went to middle school in the town. Unfortunately but now I would say fortunately my entrance exam score for secondary school was 0.5 lower than score line for the technical secondary school (中专)and went to high school in the county. The most impressive thing in my high school was the college entrance exam. Unusually I slept badly and screwed up in my first subject, Chinese. I left the examination room and met my mom in the school gate surprisingly because she didn’t tell me she would come. I said I did badly. She stopped me immediately and told me to forget about it. She prepared good food for my lunch and I took a very good nap. The second subject was chemistry and I got No. 1 in my

    province.

Look at these, although my mom couldn’t do many things for me, her belief in me, and her unique way to make me focus on study, and her care in the critical moment change my life.

When I was in the village, I never expected I would enter Fudan university and work for a fortune 500 company and live in metropolis like shanghai. It was a hard journey with some luck, isn’t it? Sometimes I forget about it, but whenever hardship I met, these things come back to my mind. Have you ever been a situation that is hard

but you don't know where you will head for? Have you ever been a situation that

is hard but you don't know where you will head for? Have you ever been a

situation that is hard but you don't know where you will head for? Have you

ever been a situation that is hard but you don't know where you will head for? The most important lesson I learned which is also the most important thing I want to teach my son are things doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. The more storm you can survive, the stronger you can dance in the rain!

    Your effort will pay off.
