                                                part 1 words

    1, hideous ADJ-GRADED 极可恶的,非常痛苦的,令人难以忍受的 

    You can describe an event, experience, or action as hideous when you mean that it is very unpleasant, painful, or difficult to bear.

    eg: His family was subjected to a hideous attack by the gang...

    他的家人遭到了匪帮的恐怖袭击。


    2, witchcraft 不可数名词 巫术;(尤指)魔法,妖术 

    Witchcraft is the use of magic powers, especially evil ones


    3, wizardry N-UNCOUNT (尤指不知道如何完成的)非凡的成就,杰作

     You can refer to a very clever achievement or piece of work as wizardry, especially when you do not understand how it is done.

    eg: The Dursileys were so mean and hideous that summar that all harry potter wanted was to get back to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardary.


    4, impish ADJ-GRADED 似顽童的;顽皮的;调皮的 

    If you describe someone or their behaviour as impish, you mean that they are rather disrespectful or naughty in a playful way.

    eg: Gillespie is well known for his impish sense of humour. 

    吉莱斯皮以他精灵搞怪的幽默感而广为人知。

    5, strike VERB 动词(疾病、灾难等)侵袭,爆发 

    If something such as an illness or disaster strikes, it suddenly happens.

    eg: If Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike.

    6, torment N-COUNT 使人痛苦的事;折磨人的事 

    A torment is something that causes extreme suffering, usually mental suffering.

    eg: Outdoors, mosquitoes and midges were a perpetual torment

    在户外,蚊子和蠓虫永远让人不得安生。

    7, horror N-COUNT 可数名词  极其不愉快(或可怕)的经历 

    You can refer to extremely unpleasant or frightening experiences as horrors

    eg: For in harry's second year at hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up new professor...

    8, outrageous ADJ-GRADED 令人无法容忍的;骇人的 

    If you describe something as outrageous, you are emphasizing that it is unacceptable or very shocking.

    eg: Charges for local telephone calls are particularly outrageous

    本地电话资费贵得出奇。

    9, spirit N-COUNT 可数名词 See also:Holy Spirit;鬼魂;幽灵  

    A spirit is a ghost or supernatural being.

    eg: ...protection against evil spirits. 避邪

    10, haunt VERB 动词(鬼魂等)常出没于 

    A ghost or spirit that haunts a place or a person regularly appears in the place, or is seen by the person and frightens them.

    eg: His ghost is said to haunt some of the rooms, banging a toy drum. 

    据说他的鬼魂经常敲着玩具鼓出没在其中的一些房间里。

    11, annoyance N-COUNT 令人烦恼的事物;令人厌烦的事物 

    An annoyance is something that makes you feel angry or impatient.

    eg: But each of these seem minor annoyances when the real trouble begins, and someone-or something-starts turnning hogwarts students to stone.

    12, rival N-COUNT 竞争者;对手;敌手 

    Your rival is a person, business, or organization who you are competing or fighting against in the same area or for the same things.

    eg: Could it be Draco Malfoy, a more poisonous rival than ever?

    1, stuck-up ADJ-GRADED 傲慢无礼的;自命不凡的 

    If you say that someone is stuck-up, you mean that are very proud and unfriendly because they think they are very important.【语用信息】:disapproval【语域标签】:INFORMAL 非正式

    eg: She was a famous actress, but she wasn't a bit stuck-up.

    她是著名演员,却丝毫没有明星架子。
