我开着车，缓慢地在洲际公路上前进，车行速度之慢，让步行顿时变成像赛车一样快速。经过长达一小时的慢速行进后，车子终于完全静止不动了。我打开收音机的按钮，想要获得一点有意义的信息，却什么也没听到。
I was creeping along the interstate at a pace that made waling look like a car race. After an hour of slowly inching along, the traffic came to a complete standstill.
I hit the scan button on the radio and searched for any sign of intelligent life. There was nothing.
二十分钟过去了，却毫无动静，许多人开始走下车来。这样其实也改变不了什么，不过大家至少可以到车外透透气、互相发发牢骚，转换一下原本沉闷的氛围。
When twenty minutes passed without anyone moving forward, people started to get out of their cars.. This didn't actually accomplish anyting, but now all of us could complain to someone outside of our own automobile, which was a nice change of pace.
