    2. Shoe Dog中有哪些值得学习的表达?

    1. 如何利用原版书学习英文(方法和思路)

    1. 读原版书两个目的:信息;语言

    信息读得懂;内容大于语言,侧重点不同

    语言学到手;

    读书,顺便学点英文(做减法,读完一本书,记笔记,学点东西)

    2. 具体怎么做:

    一:选书

    1. 兴趣:从自己的兴趣出发

    一开始别跟自己过不去,读自己不喜欢的书。有了阅读经验,读几本之后可以试试新口味,比如莎士比亚,圣经,培根散文(文学一点,野性一些,好玩一些的书)

    2. 他人推荐 (内容,语言学习)

    3. Goodreads

    4. 豆瓣

    5. 比尔盖茨书单,查理芒格(对某人感兴趣,去读相关的书)

    二、正确期待(是否读这本书?)

    简单粗暴,认真读完前两章(感受作者的风格,故事,喜欢与否。读 non-fiction,读preface,了解书的主要内容)

    (举例:由浅如深:电影:神奇四侠fantastic four,月亮六便士:看风格,读进去后别有一番天地)

    不要指望句句都是干货;

    不要指望能够百分之百读懂;(常翻常新,不同阶段,不同心情,读书感受不同)

    不要指望能够掌握所有的语言点;

    了解点信息,顺便学点英文,就是赚到了。

    选书后,有一个正确期待

    三、设定阅读计划

    (比如:一般200多页一本书,一天读多少页,设定一个计划)

    阅读要心中有数!(若自己没有改变的能力,是不会长久地)

    读书时的方法:

    四、读一遍再读一遍

    掌握框架、主要信息:

    说了什么事?

    哪里没读懂?(注意:有时有些信息,表达没有读懂,不知道,不要陷在那里,可以标记下,之后查阅去理解)

    学到了什么?(对自己有改变就是值得的)

    2. 读第二遍:

    解决问题、积累素材

Live with it :

    不要死磕,有的问题暂时解决不了,之后自然会解决,有时会因为当时的心态,资源不足够而读不懂;所以不要只见树木,不见森林;

    有些细节和用法没必要纠结:比如从 20页中学到1-3个表达,一本书20-30个表达,10个语法问题,已经非常好了——学会做减法;比如晨读做减法慢下来;有的词记得多,忘得多;不能把原版书当成单词书)

    只记你最想记的表达:

    比如:(没有必要记的内容)

He built his first lasts./     Insole, outsole, welt, vamp

What a swell idea, Buck!      (swell :good; really nice)

    Carter grinned. Swell idea, Buck.

    I've had a swell time.

Don’t bite more than you can chew!

(Audible)

(看,听,读:比如learned 的发音:My resume said I was a learned, accomplished solider, a twenty-four-year-old man in full...)

The idea interested me, then inspired me, then captivated me. It seemed so obvious, so simple, so potentially huge.

Shoe Dog summary)

    讲故事(与别人聊天时讲起)

    书的主人是你

    (读书最好的方法,就是去读,读的过程中去发现.)

    2. Shoe Dog中有哪些值得学习的表达?

    1. 读了书后学到了什么,讲出来,用出来;

    2. 读得懂不代表自己会;简单的东西并不简单

    比如:

I was up before the others, before the birds, before the sun. I drank a cup of coffee, wolfed down a piece of toast, put on my shorts and sweatshirt, and laced up my green running shoes. Then slipped quietly out the back door.

I was up 我起来了(I got up)

e.g. Red Bull can keep you up.

    slip out 溜出去

But the man wasn’t made of money.

make of money :having a lot of money; rich

E.g. Stop asking your father for a bigger allowance. He's not made of money, you know!

Do I look like I'm made of money?

    Luck plays a big role.

e.g. My mother plays a big role in my life.

    I was saddened.

     (I was sad)

God! How I wish I could relive the whole thing. This time, however, he said he had a solution.“Shoot”, I said.

This time, however, he said he had a solution.

    "Shoot", I said.

    shoot  说吧

There were no cars, no people, no signs of life. I was all alone… The trees always seemed to know. The trees always had your back.

have your back: support, protect

The 1960s were just under way, the age of rebellion, and I was the only person in America who hadn’t yet rebelled. I couldn’t think of one time I’d cut loose, done the unexpected.

While Johnson and I mingled with customers, Penny manned the silk-screen machine and churned out Nike T-shirts.

    man the machine

man: 在... If you man something such as a place or machine, you operate it or are in charge of it.

We phoned my parents next. They sounded pleased, but my sister Jeanne had just gotten married and they were a bit weddinged out.

worn out  疲惫不堪的; burn out 烧坏,烧尽

If we Oregonians were famous for anything, it was an old, old trail we’d had to blaze to get here. Since then, things had been pretty tame.

I wanted to leave a mark on the world.

I want people to remember me.

I want to make something really really big.

We're here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise why else even be here?   ----Steve Jobs

As for workout clothes, Bowerman told readers that proper clothing “may help the spirit,” but added that people shouldn’t get hung up on brands.

When I wasn’t obsessing about the trial, I was fixated on sales.

同义表达:be obsess about;  be fixated on

Don’t bite more than you can chew.

    Monkey with; noodle with

toy with (think about)

    e.g.  I toy with a idea to be a ...

    e.g. Every day, I wrestle with a task a write a sentence.

    比如:wrestle with a question 很形象,有画面感      wrestle 摔跤

e.g. Above all, she was learning that marrying a man with a start-up shoe company meant living on a shoestring budget.

    on a shoestring budget

In the eyes of Wallace and First National we’d been a land mine; to Nissho we were a potential gold mine. [

The executives told me that they churned out fifteen thousand pairs of shoes each month.

churn out : produce large quantities of it very quickly.

e.g. We were making it up as we went along, learning on the fly, and it showed.

make it up as we went along

    Peace feeds on prosperity.

    Fortune favors the brave.

Don’t stop. Don’t even think about stopping until you get there, and don’t give much thought to where “there” is. Whatever comes, just don’t stop.

The average person takes seventy-five hundred steps a day, 274 million steps over the course of a long life, the equivalent of six time around the globe  – shoe dogs, it seemed to me, simply wanted to be part of that journey.

Seek a calling. Even if you don’t know what that means, seek it. If you’re following your calling, the fatigue will be easier to bear, the disappointments will be fuel, the highs will be like nothing you’ve ever felt.

There is always something in your mind calling you.  Add oil!
