Proud of you Canadian!
My friend Ying told me her story this morning and hoped that I can help her find this lovely person.
About ten days ago, it was a Sunday morning, Ying rushed her son to his dancing class. She lives in South Surrey and her son’s dancing class is in Richmond. After she dropped off her son, she could not turn on the car engine any more. So she looked for her car key to see why. At that moment, she realized her car key was nowhere! She thought she left the car key at home, so she called a cab to home.
By chance, she lost her backup key a few days ago, so she was praying that her car key was at home, or else, she had no key at all. Surprisingly, after a long search, her car key was not at home. She suddenly thought of one thing she did before she jumped into her car in the morning. She left the car key outside of her dashboard so there was a high chance that the car key was pushed out of the car when driving.
She then called a cab to Richmond and called a towing company to tow her car to the dealership. Upon then, she had lost all her hope in seeing her car key and other keys again.
Last Friday, somebody called Ying’s cell phone and asked, “Are you Ying? Is your cell phone such and such? Do you live in such and such address?”
Ying does not speak English and can barely understand what the other person was talking about. She was curious why that person has all her information and why that person is calling. She was afraid maybe it was a scam or anything. She asked her friend to call back that number. Guess what?
Somebody picked up Ying’s key chain in south Surrey on 140th Street between 20th Ave. and 22nd Ave.. Because there was a small and old H-Mart supermarket membership card also attached to the key chain, that lovey person drove more that 15 kilometers to Hanna Market and handed the whole key chain to the lost and found department. Luckily, H Mart has its member’s contact info., so they contacted my friend Ying.
As an immigrant who does not speak English, Ying was shocked and thrilled to get her key chain back, and she was so moved that, she really wanted to express her gratitude to the stranger who is so kind and warm hearted to try its best to send the keychain home. Ying said, she feels the sense of belonging to this new land which offers openness and kindness to anyone. She is so proud of being Canadian. As she does not have any Facebook or Instagram account, she asked if I can help her post it instead. Maybe the person who picked up the key chain will see it. Ying just wants to say a big thank you to him or her in Ying’s way.
I was touched by Ying’s story and here it is:
Spread the word and spread the kindness. May the holiday season full of gratitude and the spirit of helping.
By the way, please help me find the nice person.
Sincerely,
Linda and Ying
