After I sent thechildren to school and then I went to shops. It was still early when I returnedhome. The childrenwere at school, my husbandwas at work and the house wasquiet. So I decided to make some meat pies. In a short time I was busy mixing butterand flour and my hands were soon covered with sticky pastry.At exactly that moment, thetelephone rang. Nothing could have been more annoying. I picked up thereceiver between two sticky fingersand was dismayed when I recognized the voice ofHelen Bates. It took me ten minutesto persuadeher to ring back later. At last I hung up the receiver. What a mess! Therewas pastry on my fingers, on the telephone, and on the door-knobs. I had no sooner got back to the kitchenthan the door-bellrang loud enough to wake thedead. This time it was the postman and he wanted me to sign for aregistered letter!

注意：/r/是个浊辅音，声音是由声带震动发出，有些学生会把汉语中的声母r的发音来代替/r/的发音，于是把rose读成"肉丝"，把road读成"肉的"，但实际上两者有很大的差别。
