2 days TTT was really worth the time i spent. First why i am here coz i believed Jeff was a professional trainer and the truth was he really was. Secondly i can improve myself after this training. Thirdly maybe one day i can be a trainer of myself. ( i am not sure about it) At the beginning of the training Jeff played very relaxing music. Why he did so? Because it's really good way to set a tone of the whole day, a happy tone. And also people learn thing by happy mood. He also encouraged us to ask question immediately because other people may have similar question. It was good way to set a friendly and open atmosphere. Later we learned 5 ways to engage your audience Have a chat with friends Tell lots of true stories Show vulnerability and humility Ask and listen Force audience to participate We also impress by his own story. I still remember he failed at high school coz of his girlfriend. He was a polit. He has more than 30 years training experience. He has 2 ex-wives and a daughter and 2 sons. How i can find something to share with audience when i was a trainer? During the workshop he often interrupted us. At first we did not know he did it on purpose. Actually he try to control the room and guide us to the right direction of discussion. He also used group discussion which was also good for us to exchange and share opinions. Jeff also mentioned that some people's response was slow but as a trainer we need to accept the fact. The special aspect of Jeff's training: PPT is really simple Speaking style is really humorous During the training he always did timely recap He was keeping ask question ( esp open question) And guided us to find the answer by ourselves. He also showed us a small tip on what host should do when he/she lead the group discussion. for example When you ask a group of people to answer your question? Just listen to their reply and say ok, thank you or yes and no need to give lots of person opinion. He emphasized the purpose of this presentation is to inspire and influence the audience or the decision maker so that they can be a better self. He also let us know to get your main point quickly otherwise audience may lose focus to your message. Trainer also has the responsibility to check the meeting venue When people told you "no problem" it implied you'd better check the venue by yourself otherwise you would only receive "Sorry" What things a public speaker cannot do but a trainer can do is that trainer can deliver a lesson. We learn things by 4 steps unconscious & incompetence => conscious , incompetence => conscious & competence => unconscious competence When preparing a presentation, always keeping presentation pyramid in mind. The 3 key points of my presentation must support my purpose of presentation. The 3 supporting points of my presentations must support each key point. These supporting points offer evident and exasmple for each key point. 5 rules of PPT Font size/Type ( Arial, Gillsans, serif, sans ) Why Fonts Matters written by Sarah Hyndman Image Quality / Screen size (large or fill the whole screen / how to use low/high resolution ) Templates dont use templates Special effects dont use it info per slide and number of slides 1-point - 1 Slide but no limit to the numbers of slides Recommendation book: slideology Nancy Duarte.com Presentationzen Garr Reynolds Public speaking secret : speak fast //slow/ loud// soft A story to influence is always emphasize your point and build trust A story to influence is between 30 to 90 seconds long Yan can find stories from your own or others and combo SCARF : how to use it and let it become part of our body this is the problem i have so far.
