Reflection:
Despite the develpment and convenience of technology, cruelty and hardship still persist in those undprivileged areas where the comfort enjoyment of life cannot reach.
Questions and Responses:
1. Who sang the song of the river?
The trackers/ rowers/ boatmen of the junk (Chinese sailing boat) sang the vehement and eager chaunt of the river while putting all of their efforts into pulling the junk.
2. Why is it called 'the song of the river'? How does it resemble the river's flow?
Because all the trackers sang a vehemment chaunt as they hauled the junk along the river.
A drummer beat a drum incessantly to guide those boatmen's efforts so that they could pull the junk against the pitiless force /might of the current and stream. Each of them must do thier utmost and put thier wills into the pulling of the boat againt the water flow. Their rhythemic cires rised as their toil rised when they had to strain thier efforts againt big and adverse river flows. In other words, they sang more louder when the river flowed forcefully and rapidly against the junk.
3. What is the meaning of the song?
Similar to those coolies with big bales on their malformed shoulders and backs, those trackers are animals as well. This treatment is hardly human. The song of river is not sweet and lovely, but rather full of groans of pain, signs of despair and sobs of protest for humanity.
