Her dirty petticoat quite escaped my notice. (Chapter 8)

Sometimes it is the most obvious facts that escape our notice most easily.

The change of scenery escaped my notice, since a great deal of things occupy my mind.

2.recommend

She has nothing to recommend her, but being an excellent walker. (Chapter 8)

Honesty recommends any person.

Nice conversation and good manners do help to recommend you a lot in an interview.

He totally has nothing to recommend him.

3.get the better of it~overcome it,有“战胜”的意思;这个词组还可以用来表示“影响、控制(理智)”的意思,sth. get the better of sb.

The fury got the better of her,and she took it all out on her children.

The apothecary came and said that she had caught a cold, and that they must endeavour to get the better of it. (Chapter 7)

Sorry, the anger just got the better of me.

To be candid without ostentation or design belongs to you alone. (Chapter 4)

These are not Jane's feelings; she is not acting by design. (Chapter 6)

Jane

5.score

Don't take a condescending attitude on the score of your rich father.

There are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self-complacency on the score of some quality or other, real or imaginary. (Chapter 5)

Such amiable qualities must speak for themselves. (Chapter 3)

Let your behavior speak for itself. Don't mind what people say.

They may don't believe in me, but I will let my behavior or results to speak for it.

7.justify /do sb. justice

The former was divided between admiration of the brilliancy which exercised had given to her complexion, and doubt as to the occasion's justifying her coming so far alone. (Capter 7)

Your being the victim doesn't justify your vengeance.

8.do credit to sb.

courses that were to do credit to her housekeeping

The credit is belong to the team.

do justice to

do credit to称赞,而do justice to则是“不辜负,证明”

9.He (Mr. Darcy) was discovered to be proud, to be above his company, and above being pleased. (Chapter 3)

She is above being persuaded.

You want to be above all others, work hard to earn it.

He is definitely above being pleased.

His conduct is above reproach.
