1.我完全没注意到她裙子脏了。（注意主谓语转换）
Her dirty petticoat quite escaped my notice. (Chapter 8)
转换了主语，利用escape one's notice这个词组将句子主语换成了物。强调了“完全没注意”这个心理概念，因为应该被注意到的客体已经主动escape the observer's notice了。
有时候越明显的事实我们越容易忽视。
Sometimes it is the most obvious facts that escape our notice most easily.
另外，原句中的petticoat特指女子的裙子，有个词组：petticoat government，就是指“女子当权”，像历史上吕后、慈禧太后专政的时候，就是petticoat government。
造句: The change of scenery escaped my notice, since a great deal of things occupy my mind.
2.recommend
她(Elizabeth)除了会走路，没什么值得炫耀的地方。

3.get the better of it~overcome it，有“战胜”的意思；这个词组还可以用来表示“影响、控制（理智）”的意思，sth. get the better of sb.就意为某人受到某事的控制而不能自主。
The fury got the better of her，and she took it all out on her children.

7.justify /do sb. justice

above his company，字面上是位居众人之上的意思，也就是说他高高在上，看不起身边的人；above being pleased，字面意思是不在能被讨好巴结的范围之内，也就是对别人的奉承不屑一顾
另外一个介词beyond，和这里的above有类似的用法，例如beyond my ability：在我能力范围之外；beyond doubt：确凿无疑的
