般若波羅蜜多心經/bō rě bō luó mì duō xīn jīng/般若波羅蜜多心經/The Heart of Prajna Paramita Sutra

观自在菩萨/觀自在菩薩/When bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara

行深般若波罗蜜多时xíng shēn bō rě bō luó mì duō shí/行深般若波羅蜜多時/Was practicing the profound Prajna Paramita.

照见五蕴皆空/zhào jiàn wǔ yùn jiē kōng/照見五蘊皆空/He illuminated the five skandhas

And saw that they are all empty,

度一切苦厄/dù yī qiē kǔ è/度一切苦厄/And he crossed beyond all suffering and difficulty.

舍利子/shè lì zǐ/舍利子/Shariputra

色不异空/sè bù yì kōng/色不異空/Form does not differ from emptiness;

空不异色/kōng bù yì sè/空不異色/Emptiness does not differ from form.

色即是空/sè jí shì kōng/色即是空/Form itself is emptiness;

空即是色/kōng jí shì sè/空即是色/Emptiness itself is form.

受想行识/shòu xiǎng xíng shí/受想行識/So too are feeling, cognition, formation, and consciousness.

亦复如是/yì fù rú shì/亦復如是/So too are feeling, cogniztion, formation, and consciousness.

舍利子/shè lì zǐ/舍利子/Shariputra

是诸法空相/shì zhū fǎ kōng xiāng/是諸法空相/All dharmas are empty of characteristics.

不生不灭/bù shēng bù miè/不生不滅/They are not produced, not destroyed,

不垢不净/bù gòu bù jìng/不垢不淨/Not defiled, not pure,

不增不减/bù zēng bù jiǎn/不增不減/And they neither increase nor diminish.

是故空中无色/shì gù kōng zhōng wú sè/是故空中/Therefore, in emptiness,

无受想行识/wú shòu xiǎng xíng shí/無色無受想行識/There is no form,feeling, cognition, formation, or consciousness;

无眼耳鼻舌身意/wú yǎn ěr bí shé shēn yì/無眼耳鼻舌身意/No eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, or mind;

无色声香味触法/wú sè shēng xiāng wèi chù fǎ/無色聲香味觸法/No sights, sounds, smells, tastes, objects of touch, or dharmas;

无眼界/wú yǎn jiè/無眼界/No field of the eyes

乃至无意识界/nǎi zhì wú yì shí jiè/乃至無意識界/Up to and including no field of mind consciousness;

无无明/wú wú míng/無無明/And no ignorance;

亦无无明尽/yì wú wú míng jìn/亦無無明盡/Or ending of ignorance,

乃至无老死/nǎi zhì wú lǎo sǐ/乃至無老死/Up to and including no old age and death

亦无老死尽/yì wú lǎo sǐ jìn/亦無老死盡/Or ending of old age and death.

无苦集灭道/wú kǔ jí miè dào/無苦集滅道/There is no suffering, no accumulating, no extinction, and no way,

无智亦无得/wú zhì yì wú dé/無智亦無得/And no understanding and no attaining.

以无所得故/yǐ wú suǒ dé gù/以無所得故/Because nothing is attained,

菩提萨埵/pú tí sà duǒ/菩提薩埵/The bodhisattva,

依般若波罗蜜多故/yī bō rě bō luó mì duō gù/依般若波羅蜜多故/Through reliance on Prajna Paramita,

心无挂碍/xīn wú guà ài/心無罣礙/Is unimpeded in his mind.

无挂碍故/wú guà ài gù/無罣礙故/Because there is no impediment,

无有恐怖/wú yǒu kǒng bù/無有恐怖/He is not afraid.

远离颠倒梦想/yuǎn lí diān dǎo mèng xiǎng/遠離顛倒夢想/And he leaves distorted dream-thinking far behind.

究竟涅槃/jiū jìng niè pán/究竟涅槃/Ultimately nirvana!

三世诸佛/sān shì zhū fó/三世諸佛/All buddhas of the three periods of time

依般若波罗蜜多故/yī bō rě bō luó mì duō gù/依般若波羅蜜多故/Attain Anuttarasamyak-sambodhi through reliance on Prajna Paramita.

得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提/dé ā nuò duō luó sān miǎo sān pú tí/得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提

故知般若波罗蜜多/gù zhī bō rě bō luó mì duō/故知般若波羅蜜多/Therefore know that Prajna Paramita

是大神咒/shì dà shén zhòu/是大神咒/Is a great spiritual mantra,

是大明咒/shì dà míng zhòu/是大明咒/A great bright mantra,

是无上咒/shì wú shàng zhòu/是無上咒/A suppreme mantra,

是无等等咒/shì wú děng děng zhòu/是無等等咒/And unequalled mantra.

能除一切苦/néng chú yī qiē kǔ/能除一切苦It can remove all suffering

真实不虚/zhēn shí bù xū/真實不虛/It is genuine and not false.

故说般若波罗蜜多咒/gù shuō bō rě bō luó mì duō zhòu/故說般若波羅蜜多咒/That is why the mantra of Prajna Paramita was spoken.

即说咒曰/jí shuō zhòu yuē/即說咒曰/Recite it like this:

揭谛揭谛/jiē dì jiē dì/揭諦揭諦/Gate Gate

波罗揭谛/bō luó jiē dì/波羅揭諦/Paragate

波罗僧揭谛/bō luó sēng jiē dì/波羅僧揭諦/Parasamgate
