Bad times make a good man, as a valuable proverb, reminds us that only when we endure all sorts of tribulations, will we make a hit with successful career and noble personality. In other words, provided that a person had not experienced bad times, it would be difficult for him to become a good man, who has self-confidence and strong willingness. Indeed, it is of great importance for us to learn from it.
A case in point is Stephen William Hawking, one of the international luminaries of the 20th century. After suffering from ALS, he gradually lost the ability to write. However, instead of giving up his life and belief, he is valiant and positive in facing his own fate. Through persistent efforts to explore physical problems, he eventually becomes a great physicist. Admittedly, if there were no setbacks, he might improve the efficiency of achieving success. But he would be distracted by other things and even lose himself in the pursuit of his dream. Therefore, it is the hardship that assists him to face himself, becoming more ambitious to achieve his goals.
