Gua Sha, a lamentable but realistic movie, released in 2001. On a scale of one to ten, my credit is eight. It is worthwhile for us to watch and reflect on culture differences between eastern and western countries.

The story occurred in the early 20th century when ambitious Chinese youngsters poured into the United States in pursuit of dream and success. It focused on an immigrant family who was charged with child abuse for the sake of using Chinese traditional therapy treatment-Gua Sha to cure the child.

What leaves me a deep impression is the character setting of the protagonist DaTong Xu. As a father, when he was required to seek evidence to prove that he loved his son. He thought it was ridiculous, so did I. In his view, it is God’s truth that father loves son. Confronted with the cold western laws, he was almost plunged into a deep hole of despair. As a Chinese, faced with the awkward situation that Chinese traditional values and virtues are trod on, he hysterically argued with the opponent. Although many people think that he was so rude , I agree with his behavior.

This movie gives us a broader glimpse of the formidable cultural gulf, and it is equipped with certain advancement at that time. Although it is commonplace to advocate the transmission and mutual understanding nowadays, at that time, people met with the cognitive overload that they are reluctant to learn and absorb the extraneous cultural elements.

To conclude, I suppose this film will better simulate people’s effort to transmit domestic culture and learn more about culture differences.
