When I first started learning English, it was when I was in middle school like most of the people in my age in China. And that's when I learned my first English song, the Alphabet song.
Seventeen years later, I learned another Alphabet song, in French. The same rhythm with the English one. It took me more than one week to recite the French one because the English one had gone into my mind so deep that I always mixed them. I couldn't say whether I like it or not, but it would always have an important place in my heart. From that on, it opened another door in my life.
Besides the Alphabet song. The first song I could sing was "Fly a kite", on the text book, a children's song, with simple lyrics and cathy tunes. I could still sing it now and not feel shame.
Day by day, my English improved as I grew up and went out the small town, saw the big world outside. I listened a lot of different songs on TV, on the Internet, and some live shows. I knew there was a very famous guy named Michael Jackson who was an idol of most of my friends, they were all crazy and mad about his music and his amazing dancing. But I was not really into his songs. I knew some of his songs were inspiring, but that's really not my style.
I liked those songs which tells a good story or like someone who is talking with me when he or she is singing.
Father and son, it's also a song on the text book, but not like "Fly a kite". A father was talking to his son and sharing his life experiences. I was 15 or 16 that time, and just in the age of rebellion. I was a little shocked and I thought of my own father, and my father's love to me.
Boys would never refuse to be a hero even the cost is his death. And that came this song: Hotel California. It's like a text book and taught me how to be like a man, a hero. I couldn't remember how many times in my dreams, I was the hero in the song, killing people and undefeatable. But the young hero had gone when he became to know that the real world is much more difficult.
What left then. Falling in love. Another thing which a boy will also never refuse and die for. Casablanca. I didn't watch the movie but every time I listened to this song, I made up the whole love story and pretended I was driving my Chevrolet with the girl.
Love and fight for love. Telling stories and live my own life. That's what I think about music and that's why I love those songs.
I started at learning how to read, I enjoyed my happy time, I dreamed to be a real man and fight for a big world, I grew up, I learned what love means, and I am still believe in love. I'm waiting for like always.
