Foggy Forest

I felt my heart skip a beat astime stood still. Exposed to the fresh and gentle breeze, I took a deep breathand was finally rewarded with a magnificent view. I saw the dark blue skydotted with trillions of stars, which I had never seen before in my burrow.Dating back to a few days before, every hamster I know suggested me not takingthe risk to step out of the hamster cage. However, rapt in the fancy sceneryoutside, I clearly knew that I've made the wisest decision in my wholemiserable other-directed life.

Writers prefer to claim thatwhat they're saying is completely genuine. Well, my magical story is anythingbut a compellent one.

I'm a traditional moribund. Inmy memory, there was always abundant food waiting for me, sometimes even rareinviting snacks. Living in a roomy and luxury cage with my families, well fedby my master, logically speaking, it seemed that there was nothing to complainabout. But the drawing death changed everything.

Last week, my mother, amacrobian and elegant lady hamster passed away peacefully and I knew it was myturn. My children began to make full preparations for my funeral as we used todo for my mom. Pain, suffering, disappointment and isolation kept me in adepressed state and I had turned my back on God. While staring at the cagefloor and dwelling on my misery, a crazy idea struck me. Why not go outside andjust take a look? How can I just leave the world as every ordinary hamster dowithout even break out of this tiny cage? How can I make my life a mediocrity?Though illness had almost controlled my body, not resigned to die without evertaking a risk in my life, I still made up my mind to slipped out of my comfortzone.

I packed all my necessarythings and creeped outside during our daily free time. Not knowing where to go,I paced forward along the running stream near my master's house.  As the wind roaring by, it became burninghot. In no time I felt that I was sweating like a pig. "Keep ongoing!"I told myself, clenching my fist to encourage myself. Believingthat all the efforts will pay off, I climbed in the narrow tunnel, passedthrough the maze of caves, and even swing with the help of the wicker to comeover a big whole. When I arrived at a remote field, the breeze suddenly swungaround to my back and began to gather strength. After a long journey, I finallyran out of my last bit energy and fell asleep unconsciously. I was just too oldto carry all of these things, obviously.

"Hey, wake up man!"An exceedingly elegant voice came into my ears. The moment I opened my eyeswith great difficulty to get a load of her, she was holding me carefully andbroke into a radiant smile when I stared at her. "I'm Alice. Welcome tothe 'outside', risker." She whispered to me in a charming voice. She wasn'tparticularly pretty but there was an aura of warmth and brightness about herthat made her seem somewhat attractive. Her eyes were dim, but full of faith.

Later, Alice explained to methat she was the "risky messenger" of God. Everyone, includingvarious species in the world, is trapped in the foggy forest set by God, orrather themselves. Most of them dwell on it but others choose to take a riskand break out of this foggy forest. All her mission is to pick out the ones whoare willing to walk out of it and take them to the "paradise" shebuilt outside. Undoubtedly, I was one of the lucky dogs.

I couldn't wait to explore moreabout this place. I was brought to the "outside" where so many brandnew things crashed into my eyes. The fruits on the tree had miraculouslytempting colors and the atmosphere brought up my imagination. It was just likea feast in paradise, the god drunk and the goddesses dancing freely. Addictedto the fancy scenes, tears streaming down my face.

We have been trapped in thefoggy forest for so long that we almost forget that we're born to step out ofit.We learn valuable lessons through our risky decisions, failures teach uscourage, mental wounds teach us tolerance and sorrow teach us positive attitudewhich can enrich our inner being and change our outlook on life, but we're justtoo lazy and fearful to even have a try. If you never risk anything in yourlife, believe me, actually, you risk more.

Just as Shakespeare stated inhis poem:"So long as we can breathe, or eyes can see, so long lives this. And this gives life to thee." Never forget that until the day when Godshall deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is summed up in thesetoo words——risk and hope. Wish you can step outside your foggy forest and may theforce be with you.
