Echo（回声）

Echo refers to an aural（听觉的） effect of repetitive（重复）sound caused by the reflection（反射） of sound waves from a surface back to the listener. It is a word originated from a Greek myth, which yet has several variations.

回声是一种声音效果，表现为声波从某一表面重复反射回听者。这个词源自希腊神话，不过这则神话有几个不同的版本

The most popular one is certainly the tragedy between Echo and Narcissus, in which the poor mountain nymph（宁芙，仙女） suffered from an unrequited（无回报的） love and gradually pined away, leaving only her voice repeating every sound uttered in the hills and dales.

其中流传最广的无疑是厄科和那喀索斯的悲剧故事。故事中山宁芙一厢情愿的爱情，导致其日渐憔悴，最终香消玉殒，成为山谷中的回声。

There is another love story between Echo and Pan, the god of wild and shepherd（牧羊）, in which Echo was a nymph who could sing and dance beautifully. But she scorned the love of any man, including Pan, who was so furious at being turned down and instructed his followers to kill her.
