今天继续提笔记录，接着上次的《经济学人·Visible and vocal》学习（黑体句就是摘自《经济学人》的例句）。

ease 在这里的意思就是“放宽”，这里说到“管控已经放宽”。当看到文章里这么用时，心下也能一目了然，但是如果让我自己去用的话，要表达“政策或者是管控放宽”这个意思的话，就不会想到“ease”这个词，对它的刻板印象还停留在“精神、身体上的放松”，总觉得这方面用“ease”才恰当，看来自己对这个词理解得不透彻啊。
看ease 的牛津释义为：lack of difficulty（来自Oxford Learners Dictionaries）那么“政策放宽了”也可以翻译为“The policy has eased.”
State media have been calling home-delivery workers “heroes”.
经常会周围有声音说“点个外卖”，那外卖有哪些说法呢？例句中说的“home-delivery”就是送餐到家的外卖。还有的说法就是“food delivery”。顾名思义就是路上送餐，也就是外卖的意思。还有一种说法是“takeout（takeaway）”，英文释义为 1 a restaurant that cooks and sells food that you take away and eat somewhere else； 2 a meal that you buy at this type of restaurant. （来自Oxford Learners Dictionaries）也就是要带出去吃的饭，也可以引申为外卖。
比如例句：Thank you for bringing me takeout. 谢谢你给我带外卖。
还有顺便的，ask for delivery 点外卖，place an order / order food 下单，takeout orders 外卖订单

foster something to encourage something to develop（来自Oxford Learners Dictionaries）原来这个词也有促进的意思啊，有时可以和contribute to换用。

这句话简略写就是：People could have everything whisked to them in under 30 minutes on the back of a scooter. 例句里面的whisk 根据everything 的对象灵活运用，咖啡和粥都是需要搅拌的，whisk coffee, whisk congee, 所以这里干脆直接用whisk了，如果让我来试试的话，大概会翻译成 have everything deliveried, 虽然看起来也能说得通，但缺了生动活泼。

看到这句话的时候，有点不理解novel在此处的意思，因为对它的理解还停留在“小说”的意思上，此处很显然不是这个意思，于是搜索了一下。novel作名词时，是“小说”的意思，它还有形容词的词性，意为：different from anything known before; new, interesting and often seeming slightly strange （来自Oxford Learners Dictionaries）前所未有的，新型的，在此处的意思就是新型的，新出现的；比如另一例句：The plan sounded rather novel. 这个计划听起来特别新颖。

lifeline 直译过来是“生命线”，也就是命脉，生命攸关的意思。

在这句话里面又学到了新的表达：first-quarter forecast 第一季度的预测

这句话的意思是：“不怕和他们挤在一起吗？ ‘我不怕死。’他咧嘴一笑，发动车子走了。” 可以看出cheek-by-jowl的意思是紧靠在一起、挤在一起，英文释义为：very close to somebody/something（来自Oxford Learners Dictionaries） 。如果从外表上去理解的话，cheek是"脸颊"，jowl是“下颌垂肉”, 那cheek-by-jowl 自然而然就是靠的很近的意思了。shoulder by shoulder 也是摩肩接踵，靠得很近的意思。
感觉一篇文章到处都是看点啊，总会遇到不懂的词，还有一些“熟词僻义”性质的单词，明天一点，慢慢积累，今天先到这里，明天继续~
