Even though I’ve watched the movie Gone with Wind for twice, the story still attracts me a lot when I listen to the English version this week.
The first attraction is the main character Scarlett. I like her personalities of being brave, independent and strong. She is brave to tell Ashley she loved him when she was sixteen-year-old before he would get married. And she is brave, independent and strong enough to support her family and Ashley’s family during and after the terrible civil war. A coin has two sides. On the other hand, she is selfish and stubborn. In order to support the families to survive and help Ashley, she lies to Frank who will be her sister’s husband and married to him and gets the money to open and manage a factory.
Nearly everyone in Atlanta and Terra couldn’t understand her expect Rhett and Melanie.
The second attraction for me is the plot between Scarlett and Rhett. The conversation between them is interesting and lively. Most important is that behind the conversation Rhett hides his deep love for Scarlett. He understands her. He knows they have the similar personalities. They both independent, strong, selfish and don’t care about the other people’s opinions. So, he helps and supports her secretly except the moments that he knows she wants to help Ashley whom she loves in her deep heart. Anyway, they get married at last. This is Scarlett third marriage which I think it’s the first time she gets married because of love. But she knows Rhett loves her very much very late. And it’s too late to know she loves him too, for he decides to leave her in the end. And finally, she realizes that she just treats Ashley as brother and friend to memorize the old good times in Terra before the war.
Her love for Ashley just likes a mysterious toy she wants when she is very young. And she is so stubborn that she keeps on pursuing him for such a long time. Rhett is whom she should treasure because he understands her and supports her. Even though Rhett has gone, Scarlett is still the optimistic woman I like. “Tomorrow is another day.” She is optimistic to get Rhett back.
Melanie is a very kind woman who get married to Ashley because they understand each other. They both like books and poems. She treats Scarlett very nice and sincerely even though in fact she knows Scarlett’s hidden love towards her husband. Scarlett used to think Melanie is stupid and weak. At last She realizes Melanie is not only kind but also very strong in mind before her dying.
After reading, it makes me to think what love is?
I think love is the feeling of someone understand you, respect you and support you. At the same time, you should seek and know who you are and what do you like or want.
It also reminds me that we should feel and treasure the love round us in our lives.
What’s more, we need to distinguish the stubborn love. Sometimes we just want and pursue something or someone looks good and mysterious in distance. In fact, maybe they are not very suitable for us.
Melanie’s friendship to Scarlett is moving too. She understands Scarlett’s secret love to her husband but she is so kind and strong enough to believe her. And they get along very well with each other until she dies. She is very wisdom towards the relationship between them. Her wisdom I think is the kindness and belief in human being.
Gone with the Wind is a charming story which can make readers get different feelings and ideas when we read in different age.
