英语单词共有9种词性。那么就意味着英语句子中的英语单词一定是属于着9种词性中的一种。但是我们要记住一个单词可能有着多个词性:
比如说动词to demand, to guide, to order
同时兼有名词属性a demand, a guide, an order
9种词性分别是
名词，代词，形容词，冠词，动词，副词，连词，介词，感叹词。
而形容词和副词在英语句子中可能不止一个，有可能以从句的形式出现：
The beautiful tree that was damaged in the storm is gradually recovering.
句子中beautiful是形容词，那么damaged呢？It is a damaged tree.所以damaged也是形容词。
再看这个句子：
The beautiful, damaged tree is gradually recovering.
这个句子中beautiful 和 damaged很明显是形容词，而上面那个句子中使用了形容词从句 that was damaged in the storm.来为tree提供具体信息。形容词从句也叫做关系从句。从句中that是主语，was是动词。形容词通常放在名词前面修饰名词，而形容词从句通常放在名词后面修饰名词。有关形容词/关系从句的用法，大家可以看看Jason老师之前的文章《英语语法 关系（定语）从句的使用》。
副词（状语）从句：
Our tree was badly damaged in 2015 when we had a fierce storm, but it’s gradually recovering.
这个句子中大家找到副词了吗？副词是修饰动词的，告诉我们如何、为什么、在哪里和时间。
所以：Howwas the tree damaged?Badly就是副词
Howis the tree recovering? 所以Gradually就是副词
Whenwas the tree damaged? 所以In 2015就是副词
When we had a fierce storm就是副词从句（状语从句）
The tree was damaged because we were not prepared for the storm.
Whywas the tree damaged? 所以Because we were not prepared for the storm就是状语从句。
