There are many names for it: Qi Lin, Xie Zhi, re'em and unicorn. There are a variety of different descriptions in different culture but the single horn on its forehead is always the same one. It's a mythological creature that appears in the life of human being back to thousands of years ago. Unicorn appeared in early Mesopotamian artworks, and it also was referred to in the ancient myths of India and China.
My first impression of unicorn was a few years ago when I visited an exhibition of 15th century French culture, during which I noticed a set of bewitching medieval tapestries. The unicorns in the tapestries are gorgeous, charming and exquisite. I was fascinated by the lovely creature. After researching online, I suddenly noticed that it has also appeared in Chinese ancient period and was told to bring knowledge of character to the Emperor FuXi and then Emperor of Huang. It's the symbol of good times. While in European it often symbolized purity and grace and depicted as a white horse-like or goat-like animal with a long spiraling horn and sometimes beard.
The unicorn is just fable? To me, definitely not! It was only because it is too fleet to be captured by humans.
