Were it not for Franklin's puritan origin, Franklin would not have his puritan ethics and developed is virtues to develop himself and complete himself. So, let's, come to see the virtues he summarized and think about whether or not we can apply it to our daily lifes.
Number one is Temperance, which means eat not to dullness and drink not to elevation. This virtue is consisted with puritan code of drinking in moderation so as to keep a sober mind.
In my perspective, temperance plays an important role in our life and well–being. Take me for example, I spend multitude of time in browsing the Internet and watch my phone. One day, I tumbled to the idea that if I don't change my behaviors, I would be a slave of phone and everything I did are only flipping, scrabbing the screen and laugh at some stupid and insipid information and constrained by virtual world. So I cut off the time I spend before my phone. At the beginning, it was not easy. But with time going, I spent more time in studying, reading and exercising and I saw manifest change in my health and knowledge. Only at this time, can I deeply felt that temperance must be cherished by us in this world filled with distractions.
Number two is silence, which means speak but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversations.
As an old saying goes like this, disaster come from the mouth. So silence can help us from the most troubles. And avoid trifling conversations can save us a lot of time and energy that can be invested into more significant areas. There is a word: Great mind discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people. What you said determines who you are.
Number three.Order, which means let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time. Everything have its order, so everything can play its own role and the world will not be chaos.
Number four. Resolution, which means resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve. Hesitation is a waste of time and Hamlet is a good example. Hamlet is distracted by his hesitation and overload thinking, resulting in his depriving of his good opportunities to revenge his father. So there is a sentence that inform us of the importance of action, that is "Thus conscience does make cowards of us all. And thus the naive hue of resolution. Is sickiled over with the pale cast of thought. And enterprises of great pith and momemt. With this regard their current turns awry. And lose the name of action." Great minds never be single and other people also said that always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing.
There are more virtues. If you are interested in it, you can find its meaning by yourself and apply some to your personal life.
