Yr36 encodes a protein that has acombination of serine/threonine kinase and steroidogenic acute regulatoryprotein-related lipid-transfer (START) domains and was therefore named Wheat Kinase START 1 (WKS1)

WKS1 phosphorylatesthe thylakoid ascorbate peroxidase protein and reduces its ability to detoxifyperoxides, which may contribute to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS).

结果：

WKS1 interacts with and phosphorylatesPsbO, an extrinsic member of photosystem II (PSII). WKS1-mediated phosphorylationand degradation of PsbO results in reduced photosynthesis rates, the induction of chlorosis,butincreases the resistance of wheat to PST.
